Lanzarote is a Spanish island lying within the Canary Islands. Possessing 132 miles of coastline, the island enjoys a distinct and varying geography that, coupled with a wealth of attractions and plentiful beaches, makes this a popular destination with vacationers from around the world. Due to the ever increasing number of tourists visiting the area, when it comes to five star hotels Lanzarote has a wide range of choice available to its guests as well as a range of tariffs and packages.
The island is of volcanic origin and was created over thirty-five million years ago by the Canary hotspot after the breakup of the existing continental plates. This history means the island is both mountainous and lush, its coastline rocky and sandy and there are a number of areas on the island where you can view a lava field and witness this history as it has left the island today. These lava fields are unique in that you are able to see both solidified streams of lava and the unusual lava formations that draw amateur photographers from around the world.
In addition to the natural wonders on the island, it is full of man made sites of interest as well. Though it is a small area, there are a number of museums in Lanzarote that are worth a visit on a lazy day. The Museum of Contemporary Art, for instance, is a small but extensive collection of modern art that is held in a magnificently renovated eighteenth century castle. The Castillo in which it is housed was originally built to defend against pirates following the volcanic eruptions of 1730. Admission to this dual attraction is free and is well worth the visit if you have a free afternoon.
The Ethnographic museum is also of interest and is a wealth of information regarding the aboriginal inhabitants of the island. Here you can investigate ancient jewelry, pottery and fossils and learn how the ancients of the area lived. The Palacio Spinola is an eighteenth century manor house which has been carefully restored and here you can enjoy a guided tour of the house and take an afternoon stroll around the grounds which are ideal for a picnic.
If you are looking for something a little more quirky, why not check out the LagOmar which is housed within the former home of Omar Sharif that was built and designed by Jesus Soto and is dedicated to the architect's work. Equally unusual, the Wine Museum is housed in the islands oldest bodega and has exhibits ranging from ancient presses to modern day equipment.
In addition to these various museums, there are also a number of other attractions that are worth a visit. Guinate Tropical Park is home to more than 1300 exotic birds and animals housed amidst tropical gardens, waterfalls and lakes. Rancho Texas Wild West Park is a large theme park that is an ideal destination for the whole family with activities ranging from gold prospecting to a petting zoo. After hours, you can find line dancing and a bucking bronco here to amuse the adults in your group.
The beaches in Lanzarote are an attraction in and of themselves. Numbering ninety-three in total, they vary from fine white sand to black lava fields and rocky shores and, despite the popularity of the island, you can usually find a secluded cove in which to escape the hustle and bustle.
Just as the attractions available on the island are diverse, so are the five star hotels Lanzarote offers to visitors. Amenities in these properties can vary widely but can include such luxuries as personal staff such as butlers and maids, to spa treatment and large leisure complexes inclusive of gym facilities and indoor and outdoor pools. Many of these properties can also offer special themed packages to guests such as an experience specifically designed for romance, action or a honeymoon and book tours and classes for you once you are there.
No matter what it is you are looking for from your holiday; an opportunity to take in breathtaking scenery, an educational experience or just a beach break, this island has something to offer you. And, if looking for five star hotels Lanzarote is the perfect choice for any kind of getaway.
